On this page you can find the latest status of Delfi-C3 including its operating frequencies, latest TLEs, and information about helping to decode and collect data from Delfi-C3.

Since the spacecraft may autonomously switch between radios in science and basic operational modes, it may occur that the telemetry downlink is not available on the specified downlink frequency.  Please find an overview of all the downlink frequencies in the different operational modes below.

Notes:

  1. Due to the spacecraft's orbit, Doppler shift should be taken into account for all frequencies specified above
  2. Since the downlink signal is BPSK modulated, a receiver/transceiver capable of receiving Upper Side Band (USB) is required
  3. The telemetry is transmitted in AX.25 UI frames using DLFIC3 as the source address and TLM as the destination address
  4. Delfi-C3 does not have a battery on-board and will therefore only be active in sunlight!
  5. Delfi-C3 also has an emergency mode: 145.930MHz, 2 Double Sideband modulated audio tones of approx 500Hz and 900Hz, the tones themselves are modulated with 100bd FSK each. Please send us an audio-recording (wave file) in case your hear this mode.

Pass Reports

If you hear Delfi-C3, please send a pass / reception report to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   In the report, please state the following items:

  • Your name and callsign
  • Your location (maidenhead gridsquare or latitude / longitude)
  • Time of Acquisition Of Signal (AOS) and Loss Of Signal (LOS) stated in UTC / GMT
  • Frequency you have heard Delfi-C3 on
  • Signal strength
  • Equipment (antenna, receiver, etc.)

Beside submitting this report we would like you to try and decode telemetry for us by receiving the RASCAL telemetry decoding software (see below). If you use a TNC, please send us the KISS file (.kss) along with the report. If this is not possible we would like to ask you to send us a WAVE file recording of the pass and attach that to the report.

Telemetry Decoding Software

We would like to ask all amateur radio operators / HAMs across the world to help us collect data from our satellite. This can be done by downloading our telemetry decoding software and letting it decode the telemetry downlink signal. This software package will automatically send the decoded telemetry to our data collection server(s), which will allow us to gather and analyse far more data than would otherwise be possible. Submitting decoded telemetry can be done anonymously, but we would like to encourage you to request an account by sending an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it including the following information:

  • name
  • callsign
  • location (maidenhead gridsquare)

Newsflash
Delfi-C3 on Klokhuis

Delfi-C3 was featured on an episode of the Dutch children's program called Klokhuis (meaning 'apple core'). For more info and the episode itself please check our photo weblog.

In the meantime Delfi-C3 is approaching it's 1-year anniversary. The spacecraft is still performing well and returning science data through our own groundstation and the invaluable amateur radio data collection network.

 
Delfi-C3 back in science mode
On January 29th, after having been in orbit for 9 months and 1 day, Delfi-C3 has been put back in science mode. This decision was reached because of problems with the on-board transponder, which unfortunately prohibits proper operation of the transponder.
