This Tuesday, 17th of July 2007, the Delfi-C3 university satellite will be officially unveiled. After a final series of tests this month, the satellite will be shipped to Canada. There it will be prepared, together with six other satellites, for shipment to India. The launch of the Delfi-C3 is currently scheduled for the 8th of September, 2007 and will take place at the Shriharikota launch site in India. Delfi-C3 is the first in what should be a series of satellites of the Delft University of Technology. The Delfi-C3 team consists of around 30 students from several faculties of the university and polytechnical schools. Three companies with their respective payloads complete this unique project.
Delfi-C3 is a 3-unit cubesat and is about 30 centimeters in height. The mission goals of the project are, next to the educational value, to test new designs and applications of satellite technology. These include the the Thin Film Solar Cell Expirement, which will test a new type of solar cell of Dutch Space, and the Autonomous Wireless Sun Sensor Experiment, a new type of sun sensor developed by TNO.
