The Kiss in Space Search Mission 2007 (KISS-Mission 2007) is an artproject onboard the Delfi-C3 satellite. This first Dutch artproject in space is realised by visual artist Niek Verschoor and the Delfi-C3 team from the Delft University of Technology.
One of the objectives of university satellite missions like the Delfi-C3, apart from the technological achievement in itself, is to show that space can be made accessible to university research groups and their students as well. The Delfi-C3 team takes this accessibility a step further beyond the technical aspects of satellite engineering, to a completely different field of work. With the Delfi-C3 satellite a unique print of a human kiss takes off on a quest beyond the horizon and into space. The KISS Mission 2007 ads a subjective and emotional element to the scientific, rational and objective diciplines which forms the foundation for space research. The KISS MIssion is implemented in the design of Delfi-C3 by printing the KISS logo on pieces of kapton foil that will function as thermal insulation on Delfi-C3's body surface. After several attempts with the extremely fast drying special paint, Niek succeeded in making four copies of the logo, one for each of the long sides of the satellite.
