During the last weekend of July, the Delfi-C3 team attended the AMSAT-UK Colloquium. In addition to presentations on the satellite, the team contributed to the traditional auction to boost the satellite building fund, by offering the opportunity for a Radio Amateur to fly his call-sign on Delfi-C3. We are pleased to announce that Ken Eaton - GW1FKY - will be our 'onboard Radio Amateur'.
AMSAT-UK is the British department of the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, or AMSAT for short. This society of Radio Amateurs has a long history in the building of orbiting satellites carrying amateur radio, or OSCAR's. Traditionally, AMSAT-UK organizes an annual colloquium for both their local members and Radio Amateurs worldwide. Last year, the Delfi-C3 team attended for the first time, introducing the Delfi-C3 satellite to the Radio Amateur community we would like to cooperate with. The (partly renewed) Delfi-C3 team attended the colloquium again this year. We were given the opportunity to give 3 presentations on Delfi-C3 during the event. Wouter Jan Ubbels gave a general overview of the satellite and the development status, after which Faisal Mubarak and Joep Wezel went more into detail on the radio amateur platform and the test of the modular antenna boxes in ESA's student parabolic flight campaign respectively. Like last year, the team also attended the Gala Dinner on Saturday night. Traditionally, an auction of AMSAT and OSCAR related items is being held to boost the satellite building fund. As the Delfi-C3 project is being sponsored by AMSAT-UK, we wanted to contribute to the auction in a special way. Therefore, we offered to auction the opportunity for a Radio Amateur to fly his callsign on Delfi-C3, to be engraved on the Radio Amateur Platform's printed circuit board. This offer was very much appreciated and we are very pleased to announce that Ken Eaton - GW1FKY - is the winner of the bidding and therewith our honourable guest onboard Delfi-C3. Further announcements will follow as soon as the board is finished. Further information can be found at: The AMSAT-UK website: http://www.uk.amsat.org:8080/ |
